Visitor Information

You are coming to a beautiful part of Snowdonia National Park, why not make the most of it? There's the stunning Cambrian coastline with quaint fishing villages such as Aberdovey, historic Welsh towns such as Machynlleth and beautiful landscapes every way you turn.

We recommend staying in the ideally placed Tyn Y Cornel Hotel. There are also various accommodation options in Tywyn, Aberdovey, Corris and Machynlleth.

Visit Mid Wales has a vast wealth of information about the area around Cadair Idris and beyond, from things to do to accommodation options.

The DYFI BIOSPHERE
The area around the river Dyfi (Dovey) is a special place to live, work and to visit - special for its people, its culture and its outstanding environment.

It hosts some of the finest examples of special landscapes and wildlife areas in Europe, with the whole of the river Dyfi catchment recognised as a
UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

ABERDYFI VILLAGE
A fishing village on the Dyfi (Dovey) estuary, the village centres around the original harbour, jetty and beach, but it stretches back from the coast and up the steep hillside in the midst of typical Welsh coastal scenery of steep green hills and sheep farms.

During the 1800s Aberdyfi was a busy port with a significant ship building industry, this drew to a close in the early 1900s. In 1941 the first Outward Bound school was opened near Picnic Island, and helped to inspire
Aberdovey Swim.

TAL Y LLYN LAKE
Tal Y Llyn Lake is a stunning glacial ribbon lake at the foot of Cadair Idris in the hamlet of Tal Y Llyn. Runners have permission from the Hotel to take a soothing post-race dip!

In 1976 renowned author Susan Cooper used the lake as a setting for the book The Grey King. Within the lake six sleepers lie, wakened by Will Stanton playing the Harp of Gold.

It is now home to Tal Y Llyn Swim with swim events ranging from 1 mile to 10 miles
